Travel

The closest airports to the Amalfi Coast are in Naples and Rome.Naples: Closer and more convenient for those heading directly to the Amalfi Coast.Rome: A major international hub with frequent flight options.Transportation from Rome to Amalfi
Traveling from Rome to the Amalfi Coast can be a delightful journey, and you have a few options to consider. Here's a breakdown of the best way:
Train + Bus/Ferry
1. Train from Rome to Naples or Salerno:
Rome to Naples: The high-speed train (Frecciarossa or Italo) is the most efficient, taking about 1 to 1.5 hours.
Rome to Salerno: Another option, slightly longer but directly connecting to ferries to Amalfi or Positano.
2. From Naples or Salerno:
Bus: SITA buses connect Naples and Salerno to various towns on the Amalfi Coast.
Ferry: From Naples (seasonal) and Salerno (more frequent), you can take a scenic ferry ride to Amalfi or Positano. Ferries are more scenic but also depend on weather conditions.
Combination of Train and Private Transfer
Take a train to Naples or Salerno and arrange a private transfer from the train station to your specific destination on the Amalfi Coast. This combines the speed of the train with the convenience of a door-to-door service.
Rental Car
Renting a car gives you flexibility but be aware that driving on the Amalfi Coast can be challenging due to narrow, winding roads and limited parking.
Recommendation
The most popular and balanced option is to take a high-speed train to Naples or Salerno and then a bus or ferry to the Amalfi Coast. This offers a mix of efficiency, scenic views, and cost-effectiveness. If budget allows, supplementing this with a private transfer from the train station to your final destination adds comfort and convenience.
